David & Royal Birmingham Conservatoire

The major part of David's professional life outside of his church music involvement has been his role, ultimately as Principal, at Birmingham Conservatoire (now Royal Birmingham Conservatoire), which trains students for the world of professional music, and is considered to be one of the UK’s leading music colleges.

He retired from his role as Principal in 2015 and is now an Emeritus Professor of Birmingham City University. David is still involved with Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as a teacher and examiner.

David is a past Chair of the Trustees of the Royal College of Organists and served for eight years as a Trustee. He is currently Executive Vice-President of the Incorporated Association of Organists and he holds several other trusteeships connected with music education, including Chair of the Young Organ Scholars’ Trust (YOST) and Chair of the Bromsgrove International Music Competition. He was the 2018-19 President of the ISM.
